One of El Paso's native sons is now leading the U.S. Forces in Iraq. The Pentagon confirmed the appointment of Major General Dana Pittard as the Commander of U.S. Forces in Iraq Thursday.

Pentagon Spokesperson, COL Steve Warren, says that the number of U.S. Troops in Baghdad has increased to 500, including six teams of U.S. Advisors, mostly made up of Army Special Forces.

Pittard, an El Paso native, and 1976 graduate of Eastwood High School, served as the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss Commander from 2010 to 2013.
