El Paso Man Dead After Car Collided With Trailer

UPDATE: 4:18 p.m.- Police have released the name of the man killed this morning after colliding with a trailer.

Police say Gabriel Herrera, 21, collided with a trailer being pulled by a truck. Upon collision, Herrera's car caught fire.


EL PASO - Special traffic investigators are on the scene of a deadly accident in East El Paso.  Police tell Newschannel 9, a Nissan Maxima burst into flames after it slammed into the back of a trailer.

Investigators said the driver of the Nissan died at the scene.  Police have not released his name, but said he is in his 20's. 

The wreck happened at about 1:45 Monday morning on Montana and George Dieter.  Police said a Chevy pickup was pulling a trailer with an SUV on top.  According to investigators, the Nissan was speeding on Montana when it hit the back of the trailer and caused it to rollover.

The pickup lost control and veered off of the road.  There were three passengers inside the pickup.  They were not injured.  The intersection of Montana and George Dieter was closed for hours.
