El Paso Independent School District closer to eliminating budget deficit
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Independent School District is closer to eliminating a $17 million budget deficit.
The board has now identified about $12.5 million in possible cuts.
The district has implemented an indefinite hiring freeze and hopes to eliminate 63 positions in the district by getting rid of several vacant positions, combining some administrative jobs, and cutting back on support staff at central office.
113 teachers have also accepted an early retirement bonus of $2500 and the district is also now offering a second round of incentives totaling another $2000.
