Various human rights groups collaborated to schedule more than 10 protests across the country under the “Border Overkill” movement standing against the militarization factor of immigration reform Wednesday.
Several were expected to attend El Paso's protest downtown, organized by the Border Network for Human Rights.
Organizers said residents and community organizations were against the "border surge" component proposed in the bi-partisan Senate's Corker-Hoeven amendment and other legislation being proposed in the House of Representatives.
The bi-partisan Corker-Hoeven amendment in the Senate proposes increasing the number of border patrol agents by 20,000 while adding 700 miles of additional border wall.
