EL PASO – El Pasoans braved the cold this morning, for a “Wicked” good time. Scores of people lined up outside the Plaza Theater to get tickets for the hit Broadway musical, “Wicked.”
Fans stood in line outside the theater for hours to get tickets that went on sale at 7a.m.
"We've been out here since 9:45,” said Patsy Dominguez.
"I've been here since 9 o'clock last night. I was expecting a big crowd, so I wanted to beat the crowd to it,” said Mike Dawson.
“Wicked” is based on a novel, that tells the back-story of the witches from the "Wizard of Oz." It's been on Broadway since 2003; now, El Paso is getting a little piece of that action.
"I've always made plans to try to go to New York to see it, but now that we've heard it's come here, to El Paso, it's a great thing,” said Dominguez.
Organizers said they've had a big turnout, so if you'd like to see "Wicked,” you shouldn't wait too long to get tickets.
"We have seen a lot of excitement; the show's doing very well. We had a great turnout this morning...normally we have 32,000 seats and 16 shows, but we don't expect them to last very long,” said Bryan Crowe, the assistant general manager for the El Paso Convention Performing Arts Center.
"Wicked" debuts at the Plaza Theater February 1st; it runs through February 12th. Tickets for the musical start at $60.
