Starting Monday, July 23, the El Paso Fire Department will begin accepting applications for its 84th training academy class.

Applications can be completed online at http://home.elpasotexas.gov/.  Go to the "How Do I" menu on the lower right side of the screen, then click on City Jobs.  Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the job posting for Firefighter Trainee.

Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande will also be hosting a job fair for military veterans who are interested in becoming El Paso Firefighters.  The EPFD received a $2 million SAFER grant to be used specifically for hiring veterans.  Veterans can submit applications at the job fair from 8a.m. - 5p.m. Monday at the Workforce's Downtown office located at 300 E. Main.

“We have a unique opportunity to reach out to our diverse community which includes a large percentage of veterans,” Fire Chief Otto Drozd said.

The job posting is not only for veterans.  Anyone who meets the qualifications can apply.

"We are committed to following the terms of the grant which allows us to increase the number of trained firefighters in the community at no cost to tax payers,” said Drozd.
