El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A Far East El Paso family has made their 3-year-old's wish come true. Brandon Delgado has been diagnosed with leukemia and in just a couple of weeks the toddler will be on his way to Disneyworld.
Brandon has always lit up his mother's world but last July a devastating illness almost took that away from her. "They pretty much told us that they found some leukemia cells in his body,” Brittany Vargas, the toddler’s mother told us.
Since he was diagnosed, Brandon has been undergoing chemotherapy once a week. "It was just supposed to be a normal routine checkup." That trip to the doctors proved to be lifesaving.
"If we hadn't taken him in that within a couple of weeks it could have been fatal."
Now the little boy is getting ready to celebrate life in what he believes is the happiest place on earth thanks to an organization who will foot the bill for the entire trip. "They wanted to make him feel like a kid as much as he could.”
And now the family is also doing all they can to ensure their little boy enjoys his trip to Disneyworld.
"We're selling enchilada tickets it's so that he could have spending money,” David Jasso, a server with the Lunch Box Restaurant, and Brandon’s Uncle explained.
Through the restaurant on Buckner, profits from their enchilada plates, sold this Monday through Wednesday, will go towards Brandon's trip. The toddler told us he plans to buy Mickey shirts.
And the family is also looking forward to more good news...
"We're hoping that after we come back from our trip that he will only receiving chemo therapy once a month,” Vargas said.
So that the energetic toddler can enjoy more of his childhood with his family.
