El Paso The family and friends of a Parkland Elementary School 4th grader have created a memorial outside his Northeast El Paso home.

Jacob Rubio, 10, and his grandmother, Fabiola Rubio, were killed in a car accident on I-10 near Van Horn on Saturday.

Fabiola was an administrator at El Paso Community College. In a statement, EPCC President Richard Rhodes said, “we will miss her laughter, her fun nature, and the dedicated spirit that she brought to the College."

Jacob loved sports and was a good student, said family members.

“He was just a happy kid, he was cheerful and always making everyone laugh,” said Jacob's grandfather, Fidel Almanza.

Funeral services for Jacob are scheduled for this Friday.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was born and raised in El Paso but now live in Grand Rapids, MI. I occasionally look over the news and see what's going on in El Paso. This article broke my heart. I am a grandmother of six, most of whom live in Dallas, TX. Your loss is unimaginable. My prayers and thoughts will be with you all.

My mom works with Mr. Rubio in the same office. I live in Dallas now, too and I look at news from El Paso as well. It's still my hometown. When she told me about what happened I cried all week long. I could not stop thinking about it at work. I knew Mr. Rubio personally and I cannot imagine going through what he is going through now. My heart still aches over this terrible tragedy. He absolutely adores his grandson and wife. My prayers are with him and the rest of his family.

I just lost my 23 year old son 8 months ago. There is no greater pain than losing your child. My prayers go out to the entire family.
Whether you feel it or nor at the moment, God is there with you giving you His strength and His love. Only God knows why He chooses to call His children to heaven when their life has barely begun. Someday we will all be united with our loved ones. May God give you courage to endure your two great losses. Pat
