El Paso County Sheriff's Office warns of 'refund scam'

A letter promising a refund from local law enforcement is a scam and officials say victims can file charges against the company.

According to El Paso County Sheriff's Officials, the letter states that the resident/victim has funds transferred from the department to a 3rd party account held by Joseph Richards & Associates, on behalf of the victim.

EPSO officials went on to say that, " if you receive such a letter to please verify with your local law enforcement agency or any entity stated in the letter prior to sending any funds."

Sheriff's Officials add that if a resident has fallen victim to this type of scam and wish to file charges, they can contact your local authorities.:
