A small crowd turned out tonight in Clint to express concerns about safety in their community.

It was all part of a town hall meeting hosted by El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles.

Wiles holds the meetings so that residents can share their concerns and also stay in the loop about what services are available to them.

"This actually was the smallest crowed we've had in a long time, which I consider a success because that must mean we're doing a good job," said Wiles.

Sheriff Wiles said he typically holds town hall meetings two or three times a year.

The biggeste mistake that any public official can make is to assume that all is OK. The fact that attendance at the Sheriff's town hall meeting was low is not simply an indication that the department as a whole is doing a good job, especially since I only heard about the town hall meeting 2 days before it was held. I am glad that it was held & that the Sheriff holds them several times a year. I just hope they would be more widely announced. How was it promoted in Clint? Fliers, posters or what?
