El Paso County approves incentive package for 4-star hotel
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso County just green lighted a more than $5.7 million rebate package for a new 4-star hotel.
The hotel will be built near the El Paso Airport.
County commissioners said the project is expected to generate more than $8 million annually in lodging sales once the hotel is built. The rebate package will be used as an incentive for the developers.
The county will rebate $5.7 dollars with mixed beverage sales tax, sales tax, and property tax.
The county said building a hotel near the airport will create 300 new full time jobs.
"The airport has done a master plan for all the land around the airport. You know, airports are really economic engines for communities. That's what they do is they bring business here. And, this is a key part of that plan is to really take advantage of the land that the airport owns and get business to come to El Paso,” Marty Howell, the Director of Economic Development and Sustainability said.
County officials said they are hoping to bring a 4-star Westin hotel in the area.
