EL PASO (KTSM) — El Paso City Council will once again attempt to get Texas Gas Service to ease up on its rates.
Back in February, Council considered approving a resolution directing the gas utility to explain why it should not have to lower its base rates.
Action on the resolution --which was postponed at the February 4 council meeting, and then again at the February 25 meeting-- is back on the agenda for this Tuesday.
According to Texas law, City Council is the regulatory authority with exclusive jurisdiction over the rates, operations and services of the gas utility.
City documents show the City has reviewed the current base rates and deemed them "likely to be unreasonable."
If the resolution is approved Tuesday, Texas Gas service would have until April 4th to file a rate filing package. The City would then schedule a hearing to determine just and reasonable rates.
Tuesday's City Council meeting begins at 8 a.m.
