Eight People Die in Indonesian Ferry Wreck

Merak, Indonesia — Eight people are dead after an Indonesian ferry collided with an oil tanker and sank west of Java. A spokesman for Indonesia's transportation ministry said more than 200 crew and passengers were evacuated from the ferry. The ferry links Java and southern Sumatra Island. It sank after colliding with a south African-flagged oil tanker about four miles from a port in Sumatra. There were 78 vehicles on board.
