Rate Would Be The Same For All Four Years Of College
Governor Rick Perry is proposing to freeze tuition for college students for four years, keeping the rate the same from their freshman year to their senior year. The idea is being met with mixed reaction: some Texas educational leaders who support the idea think it's creative and has long-term benefits. Critics say even though an individual student's tuition might stay the same, that student's younger sibling could pay more. If passed, the tuition freeze could benefit UTEP students. Last Fall, UTEP started increasing tuition by about 5% each year and this fall a 15-credit semester is expected to be worth over $3000.
