East El Paso man on trial for intoxicated manslaughter
EL PASO — An east El Paso man is on trial accused of drinking and driving and killing two people back in 2009.
Eric Barajas is charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter.
Prosecutors called two witnesses to the stand on Tuesday, the lead investigator in the case and a 911 operator.
Defense attorney Theresa Caballero said the two victims, 26-year-old Orlando Figueroa and 22-year-old Angela Gonzalez, were drunk when they illegally tried to cross Lee Trevino and Vista Del Sol before they were hit.
She said the state has to prove that Barajas caused the death of Figueroa and Gonzalez.
Barajas faces up to 40 years in prison.
