Stormwater Fees Will Be Key Issue
The fight over stormwater fees has been in the spotlight since last year, and now voters will tackle the issue in the upcoming election.
Opponents of the fee collected enough signatures to force the item onto the ballot back in January.
If voters approve, control over the fee will be taken away from the Public Service Board and given to the City Council. It would also throw out the fee until City Council decides what to do with it, meaning more than a million dollars in monthly fees will stop.
The President and CEO of the PSB says transferring control to the city would be a mistake because the city has proven it doesn't have the resources or funds to get the work done.
As for the mayoral race, recent polls show Mayor Cook is the strong favorite to remain in charge. However, he'll need to get over 50 percent of the votes over his 5 challengers to secure his seat.
Early voting continues through May 5th, with most polling stations open from 9 am to 6 pm.
