On Thursday, June 20th, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and Special Traffic Investigators were called out to investigate a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Vista Del Este and Montana Avenue.

Further investigation revealed the driver of a 2003 Ford Mustang was traveling north when it came to a stop at the intersection on Vista Del Este facing north

The driver of the Ford Mustang proceeded through the intersection and failed to yield-right-of-way to a pick-up truck.

The Ford Mustang was hit on its left side by the truck, pinning the driver of the Mustang who was extracted by Montana Vista Volunteer Firefighters using the Jaws-of-Life.

Alcohol and speed were not contributing factors.

The driver of the Mustang, a 19-year-old from Montana Vista, sustained severe head trauma and remains in critical condition.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 50-year-old man was released from the hospital the same day.
