Driver charged with DWI after fleeing from police
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police Department DWI Task Force arrested and charged an East El Paso man with DWI and Evading Arrest after they allege he fled the scene of a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
Officers allege that 22-yr-old Alexander Demetrius Smith driving a 2011 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle at 2:21 a.m in the 3000 block of Outrigger when an officer initiated a traffic stop. Smith fled from the officer, turning west onto 11100 Skipper.
Approximately seven minutes later, while the officer was investigating a separate incident, Smith pulled up on the motorcycle and stopped to speak with the officer. The officer found Smith to be intoxicated and he was placed under arrest.
Further investigation revealed that Smith was wanted on a separate Evading Arrest or Detention warrant issued in September 2013. Smith was booked into the El Paso County Detention facility on a DWI charge, Evading Arrest charge and the previous Evading Arrest warrant.
