Loved ones of a well-known motorcyclist are working to build a motorplex in his name and are hosting a fundraiser on the last weekend of October.

The "Drew's Motorplex Festival" fundraiser will hopefully help get Drew Jaramillo's family a step closer in building the motorplex he always wanted

"It's basically just to continue the dream my son had and it helps by making sure riders always have a safe location to go practice," said Stephen Jaramillo, Drew's father.

At 25 years old, Dew Jaramillo was a skilled stunt rider and had made an name for himself at several regional and national competitions.

It was in March of 2013 when Drew was involved in a crash that took his life.

Drew's father is leading the efforts of finding and purchasing about 50 acres of land to build the motorplex.

The idea is to have a large paved location for area riders that's just outside the city.

"We're going to start out with a drag strip," Jaramillo said.

But before the project can get off the ground, they need to raise money to help pay for the land itself and also grant writers to help find funding.

On the weekend of October 26th and 27th the festival will feature live music, arts and crafts vendors and also live boxing.

The fundraiser will also have a memorial bike run through Las Cruces.

Jaramillo said they are inviting all family members of others in the region who might have lost a loved one in a crash.

"It's supporting a really good cause," he said.

Tickets for the event are already on sale at all Pic Quick locations for $10.
