LAS CRUCES-- A man who was at the scene of the crash yesterday on Interstate 10 came forward with video that he shot moments after the impact.

Angel Castaneda was visiting a Walmart near the road, when he heard a boom, and rushed over to the scene. When he got there, he said he saw a tractor-trailer that was flipped over, and a woman in a car.

“I saw a mangled car. I was on the phone with my wife and told her I have to hang up. Someone might be dead,” said Castaneda.

There were no fatalities as a result of the crash. The woman behind the wheel has been identified as 18-year-old Brittany Alexandra Smith. Police said she was suicidal and that she apparently tried to strike the semi, to end her life. Castaneda said she told one of the men on the scene that she wanted to die.

Smith was airlifted to University Medical Center with severe leg injuries. New Mexico State University has confirmed that she is a student there. Investigators said she may face charges.
