El Paso - NewsChannel 9 has learned a DPS trooper was at the helm when his motorcycle crashed on Tuesday and killed his passenger.

Kevin Dorman, 35, was driving when the bike lost control on Railroad Drive near Angora Loop in Northeast El Paso.

His passenger, Erica Rivera, 26, was killed in the crash.

Rivera's best friend is speaking out this morning...

"I feel anger. And even more now because he should"ve known more laws. If you're gonna get on a bike. A helmet or if there was alcohol involved, you shouldn't have done it in the first place. And especially to have an innocent person with him."

Investigators have not said what caused the crash.

Trooper Dorman remains in the hospital.

It is just as cowardly to judge an absent person as it is wicked to strike a defenseless one. Only the ignorant and narrow-minded gossip, for they speak of persons instead of things.

Unreal, as I read all the comments posted it's sad to think that this is all you have to do in your life... talk about sad. The news is suppose to be to inform people of current events, not to turn it into something that people can bash. Jamie you call yourself a friend, well I don't think you know exactly what a friend is, nor apparently Kevin, not to mention being a state trooper and saying he was her friend, what kind of law enforcement person was he to take that risk with her life.......

Erica is my sister. I am always stunned at the ugliness inside many of you people. I hope when someone you love dies, there will be people just like you commenting on a situation with people they know nothing about, and saying what you're saying now.For most of you, you are bored and have nothing better to do but offend a mourning family and the memory of a wonderful girl. Put yourself in my mothers shoes, have some respect, and find something else to do with your time.

PS. As for Citizen, GROW UP and stop being hurtful to my family and my sister's memory. We have enough pain our lives. On behalf of her family, you should be ashamed of yourself.

She was the one stupid enough to get on the back of this fool's bike voluntarily. I am so sick and tired of seeing these young girls wearing shorts, flip-flops and no helmet on the back of their boyfriends' bikes, as if they think nothing is going to happen. Doubly sick of it now that I have to pay for their health insurance.

Trooper made a big mistake and will pay for this big time, but most of all he has to live with this for the rest of his life. And she, well she made two mistakes One: by leaving her children by themselves just to party and Two: getting on a bike knowing he was driving with alcohol in his system and she paid dearly for it.But who suffered the most out of this the Children who are know left without their mother. God bless them both (children).

Doomed motorcycle? Really? Why is the motorcycle even relevant? Shouldn't this story be about drinking and driving? Add to that the driver was employed by the Texas DPS, and you have a story to take note of. Perhaps even a soap box to stand upon. When will Texas get serious about drunk driving? El Paso alone had over 3,000 arrests for DUI in 2009. Obviously we either don't believe drinking and driving is really a big deal, or the punishment dished out by our judges is inadequate.

Please people, if you haven't commited a crime be the one to throw the first stone, if not be quiet live your life that those kids are now without their mother. May God Bless her soul and keep a watch over those kids. That tropper Dorman will have the guilt for the rest of his life.

Are you people serious, they are human beings. Yes, you as a human is to feel compassion. A mother, a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a friend. Now imagine YOUR DAUGHTER, YOUR MOTHER, YOUR SISTER, YOUR GRANDDAUGHTER, YOUR FRIEND! What is wrong with you people, look in the mirror, I guess you are perfect. She was my niece and forever will be loved! I hope someone like you is not around when tragedy hit your family!

MAYBE SO... BUT UNLESS YOU KNOW EITHER ONE OF THEM YOU CAN NOT JUDGE... IT WAS POOR JUDGEMENT... AND A FREAK ACCIDENT.

What about the kids that were left at home, they were toddlers left by their mom. Both were irresponsible!!

And we are supposed to feel sorry for either one of them because?????

This is why yourself as a person has the capacity to make the decision of getting on a vehicle/bike with a drunk driver or not.
