DPS Trooper Dies In East El Paso Car Wreck

A Texas Highway Patrol trooper died after a car wreck in east El Paso.

Javier Arana, Jr., 32, was responding to a call when his patrol car was hit by a Ford Ranger on Joe Battle Boulevard and Bob Hope just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Arana's car caught fire and he died on the scene.

Arana graduated from the DPS Academy in November 2010 and was stationed in El Paso. Arana is survived by a wife and children. He is the 87th DPS employee to die in the line of duty.

Two men in the Ford Ranger were taken to hospitals. Their condition is unknown.
