Dozens gather to pay respects to late Raymond Telles
Dozens of people gathered in Central El Paso tonight to pay their final respects to one of El Paso's best known mayors.
A rosary and viewing was held for Raymond Telles, who passed away last week at the age of 97.
Telles was Mayor of El Paso from 1957 to 1961, and was the City's first Hispanic mayor.
Telles went on to work for several US Presidents in various roles.
Former New Mexico Supreme Court Justice, Patricio Serna says Telles was like a father to him -- hiring him right out of college as an assistant.
"He was a perfect ambassador because he could relate to all people and his kindness came through even in his voice," said Judge Serna.
Telles' funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 11am at San Ignacio Church.
His burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
