Double Homicide Suspect Captured in Juarez, Extradited to El Paso
EL PASO — Labeled one of El Paso's Most Wanted Fugitives, 2009 double homicide suspect Ricardo Zuniga, 37, was arrested in Juarez Tuesday. He was turned over to detectives later that night and placed under arrest for capital murder.
On June 22, 2009 a double homicide occurred at the A&M Sports Bar on Alameda in Socorro. Jose Vargas, 37 and his brother Jesus Vargas Jr., 46 were murdered in the parking lot of the bar. A warrant of arrest was issued for Zuniga shortly after the murder had occurred and it was believed that he had fled to Mexico in order to avoid prosecution.
Over the past three years, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, D.E.A., El Paso County District Attorney’s Office, F.B.I. and U.S. Customs & Border Protection have been working together in a combined effort to charge Zuniga for the deaths. He has been booked into the El Paso County Detention facility with no bond.
