The Doña Ana County Manager is speaking out about Tuesday's death of a Las Cruces Public Schools student. The Las Cruces Sun News reports the 6-year old boy died after being sent home from school after falling ill.
In a statement sent to Newschannel 9, ounty manager, Brian Haines says, the medical examiner is working to figure out how the child died.
In reference to fears of swine flu, he adds, "with no confirmed cases in Doña Ana County or the entire state of New Mexico, it would be irresponsible to speculate that this particular situation is connected to any flu virus."
" The death of a child is a tragedy in itself. To compound it through viral speculation or community panic would only make a sad situation even worse for our community," Haines Said.
