DNC: Moving Forward

Tuesday, September 4, 2012 - 2:02pm

The Democratic National Convention starts in Charlotte tonight.

Democrats speaking tonight will focus on how President Obama has moved the country forward.

Among those praising the president are Mitt Romney's successor, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.

He'll give Romney credit for creating an Obama-like health plan, but that's all.

"The rest of his record doesn't fit the story he's selling right now," Patrick says. "We were 47th in the nation in job creation when he left office."

A young up-and-coming Democrat, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, is tonight's keynote speaker,
the same role that put President Obama in the national spotlight eight years ago.

First Lady Michelle Obama will also speak.

Democrats hope her popularity will draw on-the-fence voters.

Vice President Biden also arrives today.

The president, campaigning in Virginia today, arrives Wednesday.
