UPDATE:

El Paso County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Chris Acosta said one of the two dead bodies found in a Canutillo field has been identified.

Family of 49-year-old James Smith reported him missing earlier in the week, Acosta said.

Sheriff deputies responded to the scene in Canutillo because one of Smith's family members found him.

Deputies are handling the investigation as a homicide until the definite cause of death is determined.

"All unattended (deaths) are treated as homicide. Not until the investigation is complete will they determine if it is natural cause, or if it is indeed a homicide," said Acosta.

Investigators found the two bodies shortly before noon Saturday.  They were found together, but investigators do not know how long they had been there.
