Cesar Arreola was not only a detention officer, he was a family man, served in the military, and was a member of the Freemason Society.

Hundreds of people attended Cesar Arreola's funeral. It was a day of sadness.
Arreola's death was sudden for both the Sheriff's department and his family.

Arreola collapsed while trying out for the El Paso County Detention Center's Special Reaction team. According to deputies...he had just finished an assessment when he felt short of breath and then light headed. He later died at the hospital.

His cousin Benjamin Martinez says even though Arreola will be missed it has been a time to reflect on their childhood memories.

"It was always fun because he always had some kind of 'aventura' for us to get into when we'd go visit him down in Chihuahua and just get into all kinds of stuff," Martinez said.

There is still no word on what caused Arreola's sudden death. According to the Medical Examiners they're waiting on lab results.
