Las Cruces, N.M. — Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say they’re not giving up on the search for a man wanted for allegedly beating his wife in front of their children and holding her against her will.
The charges were filed in December 2010 after deputies say 27-year-old went to his estranged wife’s home around 10:30 p.m. demanding money.
According to the report, Gonzalez appeared intoxicated and followed the woman to her bedroom where she had been asleep with their two small children. The woman says Gonzalez proceeded to push her into a wall, pulled her by the hair and punched her in the face while their children watched. She reportedly had asked to use the phone, which Gonzalez allegedly forbid her to do.
Court documents say Gonzalez fled the house when he noticed the woman’s sister and father had arrived at the home. He hasn’t been seen since.
U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Shultz issued a nationwide extradition warrant for Gonzalez, who is charged with false imprisonment, battery against a household member and interference with communications. His bond is set at $15,000.
Investigators have reason to believe Gonzalez could be working construction in either Doña Ana County or El Paso County, and say he is known to use false identification.
Gonzalez is described as approximately six feet tall with brown hair and brown eyes and weighs about 175 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department at (575) 525-8806.
