DONA ANA COUNTY - A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man who allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a shovel because she tried texting his wife on Monday, said investigators with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 24-year-old Gerardo Soto on charges of aggravated assault against a household member.

Deputies say Soto held the shovel like a spear to threaten his 29-year-old girlfriend after she tried texting Soto's wife to let her know he was at her house.

This all happened in front of the girlfriend's 6-year-old son, who asked Soto to not hurt his mom, according to investigators.

Soto took off before deputies arrived. Investigators think Soto may be in El Paso or Las Cruces.
