Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies detained two male juveniles last week who were seen throwing rocks onto vehicles traveling along Interstate 10 near Anthony Exit 0.

Deputies believe the two teens are also involved in a rash of damage reports that started in late May 2012 from victims who reported their vehicles were pummeled with rocks as they passed the Anthony rest stop near the New Mexico/Texas state line.

According to the reports, all incidents occurred between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. The extent of the damages included broken windshields and dented vehicles, but no one was ever injured.

Deputies say they were staked out in a desert area near the Anthony rest stop around 2:30 a.m. when they overheard two juveniles talking. Deputies witnessed both teens hurling rocks over an embankment and made contact with both subjects.

The juveniles, both male, ages 14 and 15, were issued Class III juvenile citations for disorderly conduct and were released to the custody of their parents.

Because of the extent of the damages, no felony charges were filed.
