Customer pays Girl Scouts with fake money
EL PASO — Some local Girl Scouts got cheated out of almost a hundred dollars of hard earned money.
Troop leaders say someone paid for a $3.50 box of cookies with a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill.
The customer walked away with more than $96 of real money.
The girls learned the hundred dollars was fake when they tried to deposit it at the bank.
Money from Girl Scout Cookie sales go directly back into the community.
For the Girl Scout troop that sells the cookies, a portion of the proceeds goes toward things like program supplies or expenses for trips that Girl Scouts would like to attend.
