In crisis, blood donations needed

In times of crisis, blood donation is so important.

Blood banks in Dallas and Austin gave more than 700 units in the wake of the explosion in West, Texas.

"That's why every community must have a strong local blood supply every single day," said Sergio Carrasco, Executive Director of United Blood Services in El Paso and the entire West Texas and Southern New Mexico region.

The local United Blood Services hasn't been asked to contribute yet, but may need to help restock.

"O-negative blood is especially important in emergencies-it can be transfused to anyone if there's no time to do a cross-match", said Carrasco.
