A Las Cruces woman was arrested by police after a series of events that led to her being arrested and charged with sexually assaulting and kidnapping a family member.

Polly Tellez, 40, has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and one count of kidnapping.

LCPD investigators allege that Tellez had been out drinking Monday before she came home with a young female relative around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. The two went to sleep in separate bedrooms, but the young girl told investigators that sometime later in the night, she woke up to find Tellez attempting to remove her clothes.

The girl tried to escape Tellez' grasp, but was overpowered and held down against her will. That's when the girl alleges that Tellez sexually assaulted her.

After the assault, Tellez let the girl go while she went into the kitchen to grab a knife. That's when she allegedly threatened to kill herself with a knife. The young girl was able to take the knife away from Tellez before running from the house and calling for help.

Tellez was later booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a bond set at $50,000.
