A 19-year-old Las Cruces teen was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly beat his grandmother and locked her in her bedroom.

Doña Ana County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home in the 2900 block of Doña Ana Road Saturday afternoon after the 59-year-old grandmother called authorities asking for assistance.

The 59-year-old grandmother, who reportedly uses a cane and a wheelchair to get around, told investigators that her grandson, 19-year-old Daniel Guzman, was arguing with her and demanded that she give him money.

The woman attempted to diffuse the situation by retreating to her bedroom. That's when Deputies say Guzman allegedly followed her in to her room, beat her with his fists on her legs and right arm and then refused to allow her to leave.

Guzman also allegedly refused to allow his girlfriend, who was also home at the time, to help his grandmother.

Guzman was arrested by DACSO Deputies and charged with one count of battery against a household member and one county of false imprisonment. He was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $5,000 secured bond.
