Student stabbed while walking home from school in Burges area

A spokesperson with with El Paso Police Department confirmed that  14-year-old student was stabbed in the 7400 block of Cielo Vista just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon while walking home from school.

The stabbing happened one block east of Bonham Elementary and three blocks north of Burges High school Thursday afternoon  when police say he was approached but another 14-year-old who attacked him. During the fight, the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and stabbed him with an object described as a broken glass bottle.

After stabbing the student, the suspect walked away from the area. EPPD Officers responded to the scene and were able to get a name and possible location for the suspect  in the case. They officers were able to locate the 14-year-old at his home and took him into custody.

 The juvenile suspect was released into the custody of the Juvenile Probation Department on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon.

The student was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to EPPD.

A spokesperson with EPISD has confirmed that both juveniles were students at MacArthur Intermediate School, located at 8101 Whitus Dr. The spokesperson says they are looking into their student code of conduct, and cooperating with the EPPD investigation.
