Sheriff's discover over 400 lbs of pot after car chase
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A routine traffic stop turned upside down on Thursday evening after a driver lead authorities on a car chase, resulting in a crash and the discovery of over 400 lbs of marijuana in east El Paso.
Sheriff's Deputies attempted to pull over a gray Toyota Camry near Gateway West and Chito Sameniego at around 7:45 p.m. Thursday night. The driver of the Camry failed to stop for the Deputy and continued to drive, leading the Deputy on a car chase.
The pursuit finally ended at the intersection of Viscount and Gateway West when the Camry ran a red light and T-Boned a truck, flipping it on its side.
Two passengers in the Camry and the driver of the truck were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries.
While Deputies on the scene investigated, they discovered over 400 lbs of marijuana hidden inside of the Camry.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Detectives have taken over the investigation and have advised that they will not be releasing the name of the driver of the Camry until the investigation is complete.
Traffic around Gateway West and Viscount was re-opened for normal traffic around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.
