Routine traffic stop leads to alleged discovery of ecstasy pills

A 21-year-old El Paso man was arrested late Saturday evening after a routine traffic stop led to the alleged discovery of several ecstasy pills.

EPPD pulled over Erik Mercado, 21, after they say he ran a stop sign in the 8000 block of Yermoland just after 10 p.m. on Saturday night. During the traffic stop, police discovered eleven ecstasy pills inside of his 2001 Saturn.

Mercado was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 more than 1 gram. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a bond of $3,000.
