Police say a teacher admitted to sexually assaulting 6 year-old girl
AUSTIN, TX — Police in Austin, Texas say a teacher admitted to molesting a 6 year-old student girl. The student says the incident took place in a classroom at her elementary school, Eleanor Beck picks up the story from here.
A Reilly elementary summer school student reported the sexual assault, Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan was in jail.
Chief Eric Mendez, AISD Police, "He confirmed that he did indeed sexually assault the child."
According to document, Andrade-Gaytan held back the 6 year-old girl from recess. Asking her to play a game instead, before sexually assaulting her in the classroom.
News that hit much to close to home, from Reilly Elementary neighbors, Ted Ortmann, Parent, "My wife and I have talked about homeschooling before. Now that this has happened across the street from my house, I bet we're going to have some serious conversations."
School officials say Andrade-Gaytan started his career with Austin ISD in August 2005, working at McBee Elementary, Read Pre-K school, Linder, Walnut Creek and finally Reilly.
But his employment file raised no red flags, Michael Houser, AISD Human Resources Director, "As a school district we do national annual criminal history background checks on all individuals."
Police say they investigated quickly concerned about Andrade-Gaytan's continued contact with kids.
The district removed him from the classroom the second day of summer school, the day after the attack.
Chief Eric Mendez, "In these type of incidences the suspects know their victims for sometime and this is the first day of summer program. This is the first time that they met."
Authorities say Andrade-Gaytan has confessed, Chief Eric Mendez, "The charge is aggravated sexual assault of a child. It's a first degree felony."
Removing a threat from the classroom, but leaving one child behind to recover, Chief Eric Mendez, "It's a difficult situation for a six year old."
