The New Mexico State Unversity Police Department announced Thursday afternoon that they have tentatively identified the body found burned in a culvert on campus as 55-year-old Richard Livasy, a homeless man from Michigan who had been living around the Las Cruces area since the 1990s.

NMSU Police say that a formal DNA analysis is still pending, but the preliminary information indicates that Livasy was the man who was found in the culvert. Livasy's family in Michigan has been notified.

The Office of the Medical Investigator has not determined Livasy's cause of death, as toxicology results are still pending. However, police detectives do not believe that any foul play was involved. Laboratory results about the cause of the fire is also pending.

NMSU Police will continue their investigation until the official cause of death is known and the cause of the fire has been determined. The final results are expected to take several weeks.
