NM authorities search for man accused of beating girlfriend

Doña Ana County, NM (KTSM) — A Mesilla Park man is wanted by authorities today after they allege he beat his girlfriend so severely that she suffered an orbital fracture to her skull.
Doña Ana County Sheriff's investigators responded to a Las Cruces hospital on February 1st to a report that a 28-year-old woman was being treated for injuries sustained during a fight with her boyfriend. When investigators arrived, they learned that the victim and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Ernesto Vasquez, had gotten into an argument near South Main Street and Union Avenue. The victim alleges that Vasquez hit her in the face causing extreme swelling to her eye. Hospital staff confirmed that the woman sustained an orbital fracture to her skull causing her eye to swell as a result of the altercation.
Doña Ana County District 4 Judge Richard B. Wellborn signed a warrant for Vasquez' arrest last Thursday, February 13, charging him with one count of aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm and one count of batter against a household member. His bond was set at $25,000.
Doña Ana County investigators have not been able to locate Vasquez, and now they are asking for the community's assistance. He is described as five feet, ten inches tall weighing approximately 205 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
