Mother arrested for alleged child abuse
LCPD: 6-month-old suffered skull fracture
Las Cruces, NM — Las Cruces Police arrest and charge the mother of a 6-month-old girl after doctors find the infant's skull was fractured
LCPD officials say 24-year-old Leslee Ann Soliz, of the 9800 block of Shining Star Court, is charged with one count of child abuse, which is a third-degree felony.
According to police, detectives learned that Soliz took Iris, her 6-month-old daughter, to MountainView Regional Medical Center on May 2. Officials say Soliz described her daughter's condition as "an adverse reaction to new medications." Hospital personnel scanned the infant, but those results came back negative.
The following day, May 3, Iris was taken by ambulance to MountainView where she was exhibiting symptoms of head trauma. Iris was then transported to University Medical Center of El Paso where, LCPD detectives learned, an MRI revealed she was suffering from a parietal skull fracture.
LCPD officials say that their detectives "received conflicting statements from Soliz..." but subsequently learned that she was frustrated with Iris’ crying. Police officials add that, "at some point on or before May 2 Soliz is believed to have swung Iris, striking the girl’s head on a wall."
Soliz was arrested Wednesday, May 7, and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Her bond is set at $50,000.
Iris is still being treated at University Medical Center.
