Man driving 90 mph on I-10 allegedly tried to run from police
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A 21-year-old El Paso man found himself behind bars early Thursday morning after El Paso Police say that he was arrested for driving 90 MPH on I-10, and then ran from the officers.
EPPD Officers spotted a 2004 Honda Civic, allegedly driven by Michael Cedillos, driving east on I-10 near mile marker 28 going around 90 MPH just after midnight early Thursday morning. As the officer attempted to stop Cedillos, he turned off the Honda’s headlights and continued to drive before exiting at Lomaland.
Cedillos eventually pulled over at Gateway West and Lomaland. Police say that as he attempted to get out of his Honda, an open 12 oz. bottle of beer was found on the driver’s side flood board.
Cedillos then allegedly attempted to make a run for it, heading west on Gateway West as officers chased him. Several other patrol units in the area caught up to Cedillos and he was placed under arrest.
He has been charged with DWI with open alcohol container, evading arrest or detention and four outstanding Municipal Court Warrants, one of which was speeding 87 mph in a 60 mph zone. His bonds total $4,063. As of Thursday afternoon, jail records indicate that Cedillos is still behind bars.
