An El Paso man was arrested and charged with tattooing a 16-year-old girl in his home without a license to operate a tattoo shop.

Gerardo Marmolejo, 20, was arrested Wednesday after the parents of a 16-year-old girl contacted the El Paso Sheriff's Department when they discovered that their daughter got a tattoo without their permission.

The investigation revealed that the teen had allegedly gone to Marmolejo's home and gotten a tattoo in a make shift tattoo studio. During a search warrant, tattoo paraphernalia was located inside of Marmolejo's home.

He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center and charged with tattooing a minor. His bond was set at $7,500.

It does not help that the city of El Paso provides licenses to artist without proving they work out of a shop. It used to be that artist had to indicate where they worked and they would get inspected. So many people work out of their homes with a license which is not followed up on and the customer believes its okay since they (the artist) actually provides a license with their home address on it.
