Las Cruces Police arrested a long-haul truck driver from California on Thursday after a woman entered the TravelCenters of America saying she had been held against her will.

William Joseph Taylor, 54, from Oroville, California has been charged with one count of kidnapping and assault with intent to commit a violent felony after LCPD said he held a 49-year-old Shreveport, Louisiana woman against her will for at least one day.

LCPD officers were called to the TravelCenters of America, located at 202 N. Motel Blvd. around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19 after a woman entered the store asking the clerk to call 911.

Once the detectives interviewed the woman, they discovered she knew Taylor through her husband who currently in jail in another state. She had been offered a ride by Taylor on June 13 in Shevreport, Louisiana and within three days of the ride she no longer wanted to ride with Taylor. Taylor refused the woman's requests and forced her to remove her clothing so she would not be tempted to leave the rig.

The investigation revealed that during travels, near Joplin, Missouri, Taylor bound the woman's hands and feet with duct tape so she wouldn't leave. It wasn't until Thursday morning that she was able to clothe herself and leave the rig while Taylor slept.

Taylor was arrested on Thursday morning at the TravelCenters of America. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $50,000.
