A multi-agency Officer-involved incident task force continues to investigate an officer involved shooting from Saturday..

LCPD has arrested  21-year-old Davalous Brown for warrants of battery against a household member and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer stemming from an incident the night before. Brown is also facing additional charges in connection to Saturday's incident.

Police say that the incident began when a Dona Ana County Sheriff's Deputy located Brown at a home in the 5200 block of Melody Lane around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Brown was wanted on outstanding warrants, and as the Deputy attempted to arrest Brown, the two engaged in a struggle and Brown was allegedly able to grab the Deputy's Taser.

Brown then allegedly ran from the home on Melody Ln. and left the deputy on a foot pursuit toward the 5200 block of Rexview Rd.

While fleeing, Brown tried to hide under a mobile home. After a short time, Brown began running back to the home on Melody Lane at which time at least one round was fired each by the deputy and a Las Cruces Police officer who responded to assist. Brown received a gunshot wound to his right leg but still made it back and barricaded himself in the home on Melody Lane.

The Las Cruces Police Department’s SWAT team and K-9 officers were deployed and made several attempts to make contact with Brown. Two K-9s entered the home followed by members of the SWAT team who successfully took Brown into custody just after 3 p.m.

Brown was treated at an El Paso hospital and was released late on Saturday. The warrant obtained on Saturday morning charges Brown with battery against a household member and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. He faces additional charges following Saturday’s incident.

On Friday evening, Brown is alleged to have beat and held a 22-year-old woman against her will while the two drove in her vehicle. Shortly after midnight, the woman called for help. Police responded to the home on the 5200 block of Melody Lane but Brown fled into an undeveloped area of the county. Officers subsequently obtained the warrant for Brown’s arrest.

The task force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State University Police, and the Las Cruces Police Department.
