LCPD: Pair of teens charged with ATV theft, home burglary
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — Two Las Cruces teenagers were arrested early Tuesday morning after Las Cruces Police allege they sole an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from a home in Las Cruces and burglarized a second home in the unincorporated area of Dona Ana County.
LCPD were called to south Telshor Blvd. just after 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to the report of two men pushing an ATV down the road. LCPD officers arrived and found the two teens, Aurelio Andres Cruz and Israel Solis, both 19 on Fairway Drive, near Don Roser Drive as well as the ATV and a white 2006 Dodge Charger.
Cruz initially identified himself as someone else to the responding officers, but upon further investigation, police were able to determine Cruz' true identity and also determined that Cruz and Solis had allegedly stolen the ATV from a home on Telshor and were trying to drive it away, but it kept stalling.
LCPD's investigation led them to believe that the pair of teens may have been involved in a residential burglary before the ATV theft in an home located in the unincorporated area of Dona Ana County off of Las Alturas Drive after they discovered some property from the residence inside the Dodge Charger.
Police were able to locate the owner of the ATV and the exact location of the home that had allegedly been burglarized.
Cruz was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Facility on charges of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, conspiracy and one count of attempting to conceal his identity. His bonds total $5,000. Solis was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Facility on charges of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and conspiracy. Solis' bonds total $5,000.
