Las Cruces Police have arrested 22-year-old Lucio Esteban Vargas for allegedly robbing the Pic Quik store at 127 E. Amador Ave. on Saturday night.

At around 8:30 p.m. Saturday police say that Vargas entered the Pic Quik store and made a purchase. He then returned a second time and asked for change for a $20 bill. Then Vargas allegedly entered a third time and threatened the clerk with a black handgun and demanded cash from the cash register.

About one hour after the armed robbery, a Las Cruces Police officer located Vargas walking near the intersection of May Avenue and Melendres Street. The weapon police believe Vargas used during the armed robbery, what was determined to be a BB gun, was found in his waistband.

Vargas was charged with one count of armed robbery and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
