Las Cruces pair accused of shoplifting, contributing to delinquency of a minor

Las Cruces Police arrested two people who are suspected of shoplifting at Kmart while the woman's young daughter accompanied them on Sunday afternoon. .

Jennifer Lynn Stefani, 40, and Robert James Miner Jr., 18, were both charged with one count each of shoplifting more than $500 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Stefani also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, July 6, Las Cruces Police were called to the report of a shoplifting at the Kmart store at 1900 Bataan Memorial East. A loss prevention officer told police that he observed Miner and Stefani placing merchandise in a green tote and inside Stefani’s purse.

Stefani’s 11-year-old daughter was with the two adults at the time and is believed to have known that her mother and Miner were attempting to steal the merchandise.

Police learned that Miner and Stefani then entered the store’s garden area where they placed the tote, full of concealed merchandise, over a fence and outside of the store.

The two adults were detained and police subsequently located approximately 2.7 grams of heroin and a glass smoking pipe inside Stefani’s purse.

Stefani and Miner were both booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $5,000 each. The young girl was turned over to the custody of a relative of Stefani’s.
