A woman suspected of cruelly punishing her two children was arrested Friday on child abuse charges.

Cynthia R. Mora, 30, is charged with two counts of negligent child abuse.

Last week Las Cruces Police learned that Mora threw her 11-year-old son on a bed and struck him several times with a closed fist. Police were told that the boy’s stepfather came into the room and pulled Mora off her son.

While investigating that claim, Las Cruces Police detectives learned that Mora used a comb to strike her 9-year-old daughter last August. Mora is also alleged to have pushed the girl, causing the young girl to strike her head upon a bathtub. The girl received an open laceration to her head which required stiches at a local hospital.

Mora was arrested Friday, April 25, and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with an unsecured bond set at $10,000. She has since posted bond.
